Club Coach
Gary has worked as a swimming teacher in a number of swim schools since 2007. His longest stint was with Coburg Leisure Centre , (Belgravia Leisure), 2007 -2011. He has worked as a Senior Swim Teacher in the swim school run by the elite Swim Club, Melbourne Vicentre. He has also worked for the Vicswim Program, in both Metropolitan and Country Venues. In 2019 and in 2020 he taught in the Euroa and Myrtleford Vicswim programs.
Gary qualified as a Junior and Assistant Coach in 2007, as well as holding a Teacher of Competitive Strokes Certificate. He qualified as a Bronze Coach in 2012. Currently, Gary is studying for the Advanced Coach Certificate. He was also an ASCTA Scholarship Coach, attending the Victorian Performance Squad Program Camp, as an understudy Nic Veliadies, the then Head Coach at MLC Aquatic , with the Breaststroke group , and Craig Jackson , of Melbourne Vicentre, with the Distance Freestyle group. |
Gary has worked as a Coach for a number of Clubs in Melbourne, including CA Tritons in Bulleen, where he transformed a Recreation Squad into a squad where the majority of the swimmers qualified for, and swam in, State Championships, during and after his tenure. Gary enjoys working with swimmers of all ages. He also assisted the CA Tritons Head Coach with State, National, and JX Squads at Tritons.
In 2012 , whilst at Mill Park Swimming Club, Gary acted in the role of Metro North Coach, for the 8- 12 year old Comp.
Gary coached his first swimmer to Nationals in 2018.
In September 2018, Gary left Melbourne to take up the position of Coach at the Benalla Swim Club. He has since coached all levels of Squad at that Club. During his time at Benalla Swim Club, he has supported some of their swimmers at Country Championships, and Victorian State Champs.
In 2020 Gary commenced with Wangaratta Stingrays, and currently coaches both Junior and Senior Squads.
Gary’s passion is to develop a best practice, high quality program that caters for swimmers from beginners in the Junior squad, right through to District, State and National competitors.
He is also keen to help the Stingrays Swim Club support young people to develop as swimmers and individuals in a fun environment. Gary also believes in acknowledging the crucial role parents play in supporting their children participate in competitive swimming.
